Introduction
North
In the north, Beijing, the capital city, has a profound imperial – influenced culture. The Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven are symbols of its long – standing history. The locals have a straightforward and warm – hearted character. Beijing’s cuisine is characterized by dishes like Peking duck, with its crispy skin and tender meat, often served with thin pancakes, scallions, and sweet bean sauce.
South
Southern cities, such as Shenzhen and Guangzhou, are concentrated in the Pearl River Delta. Shenzhen, a booming metropolis, features an inclusive culture welcoming migrants from all over. Cantonese cuisine here shines with dim sum like steamed shrimp dumplings, highlighting fresh ingredients.
East
In the east, cities like Shanghai and Qingdao are densely populated along the coast. Endowed with advanced ports and transportation networks, they are economic powerhouses, leading in international trade, finance, and high – tech. The local culture emphasizes business acumen and modern aesthetics, while the cuisine, such as sweet – flavored Shanghai – style noodles, is light and delicate.
Central region and West
The western region, with cities like Chengdu and Xi’an, has a more scattered distribution. Chengdu is known for its laid – back lifestyle and spicy Sichuan cuisine, like mapo tofu. Xi’an, rich in history, preserves ancient traditions, as seen in the Terracotta Army.
